PMC is a small, 55+ year old, Canadian owned company that provides Marine Control and Monitoring products and systems for the medium to large ship market. Our focus is on providing these products, systems and associated service with personal and flexible customer support from start to finish. We currently have two Career opportunities available

Position 1: Automation and Mechatronics Specialist

PPMC is looking for a full time, experienced, Automation and Mechatronics Specialist to join our team. The successful applicant’s main responsibilities will include:

  • PLC and Embedded systems’ integration, programming and HMI creation, assembly, testing, and field service installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Travelling will be required from time to time for field services and the applicant can be expected to get their hands dirty and work at all levels to successfully bring the project or service visit to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Working to maintain project timelines including approved overtime if and when required.
  • Technical documentation creation and communication including preparing detailed Procedures, Instruction manuals, Service Reports, and Marine Regulatory Approval documentation.
  • Customer, Project Manager, and Marine Regulatory Body communication.
  • Working with other PMC employees and personnel, including Technicians, Machinist, CAD, Project and Technical managers in a co-operative, flexible, effective and courteous manner.

Requirements:

  • PLC programming and HMI creation skill and experience.
    • Experience with Opto22 and/or Siemens S7-1200 PLC hardware, setup, programming and HMIs would be a significant asset.
    • Some familiarity with embedded systems / DSP programming in a C environment would be an additional asset, as would any kind of C, C++ or C# programming familiarity or exposure.
  • Mechatronics Technologist / Engineer certification (or similar) is a strong asset. However, the ideal candidate may have less (or different) education combined with relevant technical work and / or hobbyist experience.
    • For example, an electrician with significant PLC programming experience and a couple years of Post-Secondary in arts, science or business could possibly be a fit for this job as well, despite having no formal engineering or technologist education. Capability is more important than credentials.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English with Post-Secondary level technical writing / written communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Can easily grasp and communicate new concepts.
  • Familiar with digital and analog circuits.
  • Possess good mechanical aptitude and have experience with hand tools, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and handheld power tools.
  • A Driver’s License is required for local travel to shipyards and ship berthing facility.
  • International travel, especially to the US, will be necessary from time to time, so successful candidates will need to be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport and be able to travel to the US.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and well developed organizational skills and the ability to adhere to and meet deadlines.
  • Marine / Shipboard systems knowledge an asset.

Position 2: AutoCAD Drafting Technician & Project Documentation Lead

PMC is looking for a full time experienced Drafting Technician to join our team. Working with our engineering and production teams, the successful applicant’s main responsibility will be making system connection and equipment layout drawings as well as manage the project bills of materials.

Duties include:

  • Electrical systems drafting for vessel propulsion control, instrumentation, and machinery alarm systems
  • Equipment and connection plate layout drawings
  • Bill of materials creation and upkeep
  • Mechanical parts drafting to support our design and manufacturing capabilities
  • Pneumatic / hydraulic systems drafting to maintain existing vessel systems drawings
  • Technical document control and adherence to quality control system
  • Possible advancement to systems design responsibility
  • Possible advancement to Project Leader responsibility

Requirements:

  • Fluent in verbal and written English
  • Proficient with AutoCAD 2023 and Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • Computer and computer file management skills required
  • 5 years in the technical drawing field with controls / automation experience is required
  • Electrical knowledge – ability to read circuit drawings is required
  • Willing and capable of learning and following PMC’s established drafting standards
  • Strong attention to detail and well developed organizational skills
  • Ability to adhere to and meet deadlines
  • Marine systems knowledge an asset
  • Experience with GibbsCam and SolidWorks an asset
  • Manual drafting skills an asset
